When I first heard the name 'The Da Vinci Code', I was convinced of the fact that I would never turn into the type of person who reads those books. I changed my mind however, when we went on a school trip to France. A girl brought the film 'The Da Vinci Code' with her so we could watch it during the trip. Although I am a firm believer of reading the book and watching the film afterwards, this film made me feel intrigued in the world of mysteries and secrets.
Right now, a few years later, I have become an absolute fan of Dan Brown's work. I have read the 'The Da Vinci Code' twice (I know.. ) and 'The Lost Symbol' and 'Angels and Demons' did follow later. When 'Inferno' was released, I was thrilled.
Keeping in the back of my mind that this book would probably be his best, I started reading. To be honest, I had quite a hard time getting into the flow of the book. Usually I become swallowed up by a Dan Brown work, with Inferno, this wasn't the case.
A lot of story lines are present throughout the entire plot. Sometimes, I did not understand why some of the characters were given such an extended, detailed storyline, since they weren't of mayor importance to the main story. The story overall seemed a bit cliché to me and the unexpected turning-point in the book wasn't as unexpected as figured.
These thoughts about the book might have been a mistake in the end. I jumped into it with the idea that this book would blow me away completely, and maybe this was wrong. All in all, I quite enjoyed reading the book as a whole, but I do not think 'Inferno' can be called Dan Brown's masterpiece.
